Everything is hearsay at this point. Need to wait until schools publish.

Schools publishing doesn’t tell you much.

It tells you where the kids went, without any context.

Schools with good exmissions help ensure kids find the right fit—that may be a private, but it also might be a magnet school, Walls, a less competitive school bc their friend/sibling is there.

The hyperfocus about this blows my mind. People need to get a grip and stop putting so much pressure on your kids.

As Pete Campbell would say, ‘Not great, Bob!’

Just be careful how you interpret the results when K-8 advertise where their 8th graders got accepted to. When my daughter graduated from 8th a few years ago, it was the same 2-3 kids who got in to all the top “Big 5” schools ( they were all great athletes and good students as well). School results would read something like this ( as an extreme example) :

“Our graduates got in top highschools :

GDS
STA
NCS
Maret
Sidwell
Potomac
Our local public high school
Flint Hill
SAES”

At first glance, one would think that more than half the class got into the top 5 schools, when in reality , it was only the same 2-3 kids getting in everywhere with the rest of the class getting average acceptances.

Totally this. Also, language about kids getting into one of the kid's own top choices is weaselly. Top 10 choices? Top 20?

I’m the OP and I care because my older DC goes to a K-8 and I’m trying to decide whether to send my younger DC to the same school for family unity/logistics or to apply her to a top 3. Younger DC stands a much better chance of getting into a top school in K than my older DC did.

We started in a smaller private school and got into the Big 3 in later elementary grades. I feel we saved some money and our child really thrived.

Its going to be pretty specific to your K-8. My 8th grader at a K-8 is very happy as is their friends. I was very happy with how the school supported us through the process, especially the teachers who were on top of all the recommendation requirements. Its their business to make sure everyone has options. Wait a few more weeks till decisions are made and then talk to an 8th grade parent.

Sheridan had another strong year and definitely a case where multiple kids were admitted to multiple top schools. Last year alone, 1/3 of the class was admitted to GDS, for example.
