An impressive showing from Hydra for their first year.

How many swimmers does hydra have?
Anonymous
Not really impressive. These are all just former York swimmers.

I’m not a Hydra person, but to be fair the former York swimmers are kids Hydra’s coach trained while at York.

All the kids were expected to make it. It’s just a switch in columns from York to new club. Wouldn’t really describe it as “impressive” to steal a whole practice group of fast 12 and unders.

But he “stole” them because he was already their coach.

I agree a lot would have moved with him. Kids get attached to coaches. But objectively he stole them. He broke USA Swimming rules (which have no teeth) and actively recruited the best swimmers while setting up his new club. He was so bold as to advertise himself and his new club email address on the York site.

We are not attached to either club but I was surprised this season when they were at one of the first meets. I was timing on deck and the other club kids were talking about them (timing is the best) and all the drama surrounding them. The consensus in the kid's words was that team has a supervillain origin story and chose a name to match.

'Objectively' - LOL.

Y’all are so silly. Go read the papers and become enraged about something else. These are kids and this is amateur swimming. It’s not a college coach violating recruiting rules to snag a swimmer from another college team (oh…wait…most of that is legal even in college now). See how dumb this is for age group club swimming?

No one is 'enraged', just explaining the high # of Hydra entries. These aren't swimmers who were plucked from obscurity and in six months turned into PVS Champs qualifiers, they're kids who've been training at York and are now...re-branded

Not the previous poster but I'd say 180 entries for a single pool club is still pretty impressive, regardless of whatever the back story is.
