When I got engaged decades ago I wore a lot of silver, but I now only wear gold. My wedding rings are platinum which I know is stronger, but I'd love to switch to gold. Is that a bad decision? My engagement ring is three diamonds and obviously protecting them is the most important.
Just wondering if anyone else has made the switch as their style evolved over the years. |
| Seems like a lot of work. |
| Is this my post? I did the same thing last year. Changed it for my anniversary. Only the main diamond was able to move to a different ring, I had to replace all of the other ones. But since I wanted something simple, it was $2500 for the gold set. It wasn't a lot of work at all, needed to find the jeweler, the styles I wanted, and lose my engagement for a few weeks while they sent in the diamond. I am so much happier with my gold. |
| Why not just buy a new ring in gold and keep the platinum? Seems like the ring would be the sentimental part, not the diamond. |
| lol are you going to change it back again in 5 years when trends change again |
| I just wear mixed metals. |
| Buy a new ring and reset the stones. Or just buy a new ring. Or start mixing metals. |
| Buy a Rolex Lady Datejust or similar and mix metals. |
Yeah, I don't want to assume but I feel like this is less of style evolving and more just wearing the "in" metal. (Which, no shade lots of women do this. I remember 15 years ago I thought gold jewelry was tacky and now I wear gold.) |
| I think the gold trend has peaked. I mean we had gold iphones for hecks sake. |
I'm not sure why metals are a trend. People should wear what they look best in. |
| I just mix metals. It can take time and play around to see what you like best with your skin tone and with each other. For me it just makes it more interesting. |
| I think I would judge someone who had their engagement/wedding rings changed-out to a different metal, for no good reason, other than a new preference |
That's a dumb thing to judge someone for. If they didn't steal the money from you to pay for it, what do you care? |
| It sounds like my set is similar to yours OP... platinum with 3 stones. I love my wedding set so have no desire to change. My personal thought is a wedding set is supposed to be the one constant thing that stays the same as fashion trends come and go. However..if you have the money...go for it. |
