Keep Morocco and Egypt spring break plans?

Anonymous
Egypt would just be two days in Cairo for the main sights. Transiting via Europe. Rest of time in Marrakech and surrounds and Essouria. Taking the kids. We’ve been before so not looking for normal cautions - just thoughts based on current circumstances. Any reason to think Morocco would be less safe than usual? We can skip Cairo for not much more money.

Put Canadian flag stickers or patches on all your luggage and backpacks.

Personally I would not go to Egypt right now.

I would consider Morocco, but I’ve spent a lot of time working in both Egypt and Morocco so I’m a bit more used to both.

I would go out of my way to advertise that I was not an American.

I would not feel comfortable in Egypt given Iran’s willingness to strike in the Middle East. It’s very difficult to strike the US but it’s not hard to hit Americans in non-European locations.

This quickly became a regional war. Anything can happen anywhere.

Regardless, Egypt and Morocco were iffy and not entirely safe before this war.

I certainly wouldn’t take my family to either right now or in the coming year(s).

I would still go. The odds of you actually getting killed are nil.

Morrocco should be ok. I'd skip Egypt though if I were you.

I would be more afraid of terrorists targeting Americans traveling in those places than Iran bombing those countries.

No way

For those saying no, have you traveled in this area before and/or would go under normal circumstances?

I have traveled to both countries before (as well as Jordan and Lebanon). I would go to Morocco now but not Egypt.

I have traveled to both countries many times. Personally I’m kind of over Egypt so I wouldn’t go anyway, but I recognize that is mostly about me.

I have timed trips to Egypt to leave on a night flight the day before elections and saw the state department warnings to leave the country while sitting at the airport. I have also traveled to Yemen and far less safe places. But I wouldn’t go to Yemen for vacation. Or Egypt right now for that matter.

Would follow the state department guidance.

Hard no on Egypt. Assume you saw the State Department Guidance today:
