Menopause and High Cholesterol

Anonymous
I recently entered menopause and my total cholesterol levels have shot up.

Is this a common symptom of menopause?

Dunno about common, but my cholesterol and calcium scores went up. They had been excellent all my life until then.

Same. I just turned 59. I’ve been on Crestor for about 2.5 years.

Happened to me, too. Hormones really do affect everything, I guess.

Happened to me too- ofc my doctor didn’t say that menopause had anything to do with it. Just shamed me about cheese. I’m on a statin now and it’s back to within normal limits.

Mine shot up in perimenopause so I’ve been on a statin for about three years (haven’t gotten to full menopause yet)

Yup, it is common. Google it and you’ll see it’s from loss of estrogen.

My cholesterol shot up after I had Covid. Not in menopause yet.

does it affect your sex drive or ED if it is for men?

FWIW my cholesterol went way down after starting HRT!

Same here. When I hit menopause, my cholesterol went up like like crazy. Then I went on HRT and now it’s back to where it was pre menopause.

It's that, but also general aging. But HRT does help some women, sometimes.

Is there a genetic component, OP? This is also a major factor.

+1 and blood pressure. It was super normal until I turned 50.

What is "super" normal?

Look at your diet and lifestyle. I would make changes there first before taking a statin.
