Seeking feedback from current or recent Holy Child parents

Anonymous
My daughter was admitted to the St. John’s Benilde program, but I am leaning toward Holy Child because I think she needs a smaller place. Are there any Holy Child parents who can share their experiences? Are the girls nice? When I visited I was struck by the camaraderie and they seemed to generally get along. The school seems to have a lot of spirit and team building traditions. How good is the learning support? How hard is the grading? Are you happy with the school?

Some of the learning support teachers moved to HC from the Siena School and are excellent. Ask the school to connect you to current families to learn more.

Thank you. This is incredibly helpful!

A lot of the problem girls at SR upper school came from holy child. So grateful for them

There are quite a few recent threads on here about this school. In addition to searching ‘holy child’, search ‘HC’ as well.

My daughter is a current student there - I truly feel it's a happy place. The teachers, administration, etc... are all super approachable and supportive. The new HOS will be great as well. I honestly can't say enough good things about the school! I am so happy my DD landed there -

Thank you for this! Do you know anything about learning supports? How hard is it academically? My daughter is strong at math but struggles with writing

Last year, my daughter (ADHD) applied to SJC Benilde and Holy Child. Parents really wanted to her to go to HC... she got waitlisted. Her first choice was SJC since she wanted to be around boys. We've grown to love SJC but our daughter's experience has been mixed. Upon asking for help, we've found that the Benilde staff and teachers have been beyond helpful and would highly recommend it for a student willing to accept help.

We love HC. Also considered SJC Benilde. Our daughter has been academically supported, encouraged, and nurtured. She loves the tight-knit school, the fun traditions, her teachers, and her class. She has also been challenged and taken AP classes. School choices are hard-good luck with your decision!

This is so helpful! How has your daughter’s experience been mixed at SJC? Bad teachers, mean girls, tough grading? Thank you so much for your help

Thank you so much for this! One of the draws of HC is the strong learning supports. Have those proven to be as substantial as they are marketed to be? Are the girls down to earth? My impression is that the girls get more support through the four years at HC than they do at SJC since it is so much bigger. I really appreciate the insights! This is such a hard decision

Also, what kind of help have you gotten from Benilde?

I would also love to hear more about the experience for both programs. My DD (dyslexic/ADHD) was accepted to HC and SJC Benilde, and we are trying to figure out what is going to be the best option for her.

HC alum here - absolutely loved my years there and will forever recommend the school! It is an extremely accommodating school. Hindsight it is definitely less academically challenging than the majority of girls schools but there are opportunities for challenges - more so now than when I was there. I don’t see how anyone can go wrong sending their child there!

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer. How long ago did you graduate?
