| DD7 is not a girly-girl, prefers comfy clothes and hates dresses, I haven't bought her a dress or skirt in probably 3 years now. For recent events that have required nicer clothes, khakis plus a polo or sweater have typically been sufficient (same for older DS). However we will be attending a family wedding that will be decidedly more formal- black tie optional. DS will wear a button down, slacks and a tie. I've given DD the option of wearing the same or a dress and she's balking at both. I don't think she wants to 100% look like a boy, whcih I understand, but also refuses any dresses we've seen. Help me think aoutside the box, I can't be the only one who has been in this situation! TIA. |

I was a tom boy and on formal occassions had to suck it up and wear a dress or a skirt. That is a part of life.
She can look at nicer dressy pants and tops with you or find a flowy skirt or dress that is comfortable and not constraining. Get her a pair of shorts like the cheer kids wear under their skirt so she can wear that underneath. |

What about something like this: https://us.boden.com/products/girls-puff-sleeve-woven-top-chambray-broderie-g5904blu

I have a girl the same way. She’s 13 now and still like it. In the elem years she wore a button down shirt and a tie happily, along with her sparky earrings lol.
Maybe try black pants with a shirt/blouse that is either feminine or masc in its cut. Show her options. I think it’s fine to say this is a dress up occasion so dressing up is not an option. She csn gave choice in what she-wears though but needs to give input. |
I’m the above PP. there’s no way my DD would wear something like that. Way too girly looking. |
| A black jumpsuit? Black pants and a nice sweater? A long black skirt and nice top? |
I think this is the right direction. I would look for a coord set in a dark or jewel tone color. |
| Black jumpsuit, or slacks with a sweater. |

Black leggings and a fancier sweater or tunic sort of top.
Fancy things up with a cheap crossbody purse or sparkly shoes. |
| Is her issue not wanting to look girly girl or that she doesn't physically feel comfortable in dresses? Dark thick leggings under the dress may feel enough like pants with a sparkly longer top/ minidress could work if the latter. |
| Leggings and comfy shoes with a jersey dress, or maybe palazzo pants? |
WTF, no! |
