| If a teacher/chaperone is seen having a glass of wine after hours on a school trip, would they be fired or asked to resign? |
| When off-duty, I don't think you can criticize any adult over the age of 21 for drinking, unless there's a DUI, endangerment, etc. |
| Are they meant to be an overnight chaperone or are adults trading off responsibilities? |
| No. |
Only chaperones for trip for high schoolers to another state. Let’s say the drink is in the hotel bar. |
| That seems a bit ridiculous. Was there a stated policy that an employee crossed? |
|
No. Any adult willing to take kids overnight should have a glass with dinner, let alone after hours and off duty.
But if you’re the teacher and you’re worried then err on the side of caution and don’t. If you can’t stop at one, then definitely don’t. |
| The real question is who is OP in this scenario? |
I and totally speculating and don’t notice this is the case. I guess I am asking whether there is a prohibition or drinking any alcohol for teachers? Maybe even for insurance purposes? |

| Your school will have a policy on this. Guaranteed. It will contain the answer. |
| I know our coaches cannot have a drink in front of the kids. They travel quite a bit (this is rowing, with overnight regattas and a spring break training trip). Not sure if that's athletics specific. |
And I’m gladly buying them a round! |
| Getting fired seems over the top unless they were drunk or engaging in some other inappropriate behavior. Maybe some sort of reprimand and clarified guidance would make sense, or removal from future trips. |
| is this about a specific situation? |
