Where did you spay your dog?

Anonymous
Where did you all spay your dogs? My vet quoted $1400 and that's a bit more than we can afford right now. We make too much for the county spay clinics though. Is this a normal cost? I was thinking it would be like $800. My boy dog only cost about $300, but I get that neutering is much easier.

Our vet did it, but this place has low cost: https://spayspa.org

$300. There's not an income limit. $50 deposit due when you book your appointment.

Not PP, but it's literally on their website: https://spayspa.org/about/services-and-pricing/#spay-neuter

Do you need someone to schedule the appt and take your pet, too? Damn...

Hire an assistant since you clearly need help!

I’d do a low cost neuter clinic over a vet. Better results. They do dozens of these a day! Took my dog to one and her surgery scar is awesome. Wish my c section scar looked as good

Sorry, no I was asking how much it was at the vets. I did look at the link she sent. I’m curious if my vet is the standard price.

FWIW, my vet was around $900 for a neuter (which is less expensive than a spay) in 2020.

This was for a 50 lb dog.

Similar. 50 lb dog in 2021, $1100 for a neuter at our vet in DC. I thought it was the anesthesia, but same dog was just put under for a dental cleaning and that was 400 so who knows.

For my 75lb Lab, her spay was $800. Not bad. Insurance covered some of it.

Wow these prices are crazy. I had no clue it cost this much. I see why people do not spay or neuter their animals.

Call a couple rescues and ask where they go.

Or go to a vet further out.

$300 for a one-time procedure is far from "crazy", and if it's a dealbreaker for someone, they probably shouldn't own a pet.

No excuses. Spay/Neuter your animals or you're an absolute crap person.

Teeth cleaning too. It's always over 1k and vets want it done yearly.

A spay is a very invasive procedure, but a neuter isn't. I've seen some dogs get their balls removed, but others just have the tube cut (similar to human's vasectomies).
