Just to give an example at our club for our large club the age group i know.
0 on ecnl
2 on rl
8 on 3rd team.

Maybe true. But weird that you’d know the birth month of some 60+ kids.

Also at an ECNL club and we can see birthdays in our team management app. We have almost the same split in our age group among 3 teams at U13. 0 NL, 3 RL, half the third team. Also, lots of opponents have their graduation year posted on their roster on the ECNL website, so you can often guess how many Fall birthdays they have. Spoiler, it is not very many on NL teams.

Lot of assumptions there.

But you can see other teams’ rosters and birthdays for your club in your team management app?

Weird

Actually it's pretty on point for hyper competitive soccer parents who over obsess about every factor, such as the whole BY/SY transition.

Our club was recently promoted to MLS Next. We were told that the club can no longer participate in ECNL or NPL.

If you really want to go down that rabbit hole again. Most other countries define their SY by BY.

False claim. “Most other countries” do use calendar year / BY regardless of school year/grade. A simple google search would tell you that. They actually specify which countries use SY and it’s a small minority.

But our country insists on using inches, pounds, Fahrenheit, 110 volt, and “soccer”. So it seems consistent to be different.

Different poster, but I think you missed the point that a vast majority actually do use their SY. In their country SY=BY. So they aren’t having our misalignment issues.

Yes many countries do not start kindergarten until age 6/7 and have a variety of different school calendars.
I believe Sweden follows a model closer to our BY calendar. But even in Sweden they allow Q3/4 smaller players to play down until U15 I believe.

Many, not “vast majority.”

Regardless…what does that say about our school age cut offs that were so out of sync there, and hand a mishmash of different dates and states…

So we base our soccer age groups on an an arbitrary date out of step globally, because our school cut off is an more arbitrary date with 50+1 national variance…

We have the government we deserve.

Our club (Minnesota):

- first teams (U13 and older) will play MLS Next 2

- second teams (U13 and older) will play ECNL-R

- rest of the teams (all ages) will play NPL

Don’t want this spiraling into a political debate, but I’m also really hoping for 1000. State’s rights. We don’t need the federal government dictating education on a national level. Discuss…

The rumor is that is coming to an end. MLSN will not allow its players to play with other leagues. By Fall 26 clubs will have their 2nd teams in MLSN2.

Our 1st team will be MLSN2.

However my club has 4 additional teams by age.

Where should those 4 teams play? (If the club is not allowed ECNL-R, NPL, USYS …)

Where are we with GA announcing SY vs BY? We have some decisions to make about clubs and this will help guide our decision! Hopefully they announce soon. I can’t imagine them staying BY

Writing on the wall is SY…I can’t imagine they’d go BY just to please a certain segment of the population

You don’t have to worry about it as will only apply to MLSN T1 players. They will not be allowed to play with other teams.

I don’t think we will get a formal announcement until May/June. After teams have been formed. Same with ECNL.
