Punch the Monkey

Who else has gone down the rabbit hole of watching the adorable abandoned macaque monkey who lugs around his stuffed monkey companion in the Japanese zoo? I'm not crying, it's the onions!

I’ve become a little obsessed with watching videos about little Punch and wondering why the other macaques don’t seem to accept him. He is so adorable and just wants to be hugged. Hope they can keep him safe.

I've seen videos where he's playing with a young buddy, as well as one where he's being hugged by an older female. I think he's starting to find his place!

I hope that is true. His story made me so sad. Such a cute little guy.

I love that we are all rooting for him. It brings out a better side of DCUM-just like with the Peace Monks.

We were at the College Park IKEA yesterday and they still had a few in a display in the children’s furniture section, if anybody is hunting for one!

Love little Punch and happy that he is finding his place. I have to keep reminding my kids that he isn’t human and doesn’t experience emotions the way humans do.

I honestly believe he is a very resilient little guy, and he will be okay. He was raised by and got some nurturing from the zookeepers, otherwise he probably wouldn't have thrived, because animals need attachment too. Baby monkeys die when they're isolated, even if given water, food, and shelter. Also glad he is getting the hang of being his own kind, even though there were some rough patches.

You have no idea how a monkey experiences emotions and it’s far more likely that we share the same feelings than not. We share 93% of the same DNA and we share common ancestors. Basic empathy allows most of us to see the very close similarities.
