UMD President Scholarship

DD received email notifying of Presidential Scholarship. Wondering what is the typical award amount for in-state and OOS.

For her: $5K/annually for 4 years. In-state.

Instate top level is 5k and OOS top is 12k. Remember OOS COA cost is much higher. 12k over 5k difference doesn’t mean OOS kid is more qualified

Separately, did they get Honors and do they plan to honors?

They did get honors, but I don’t think they’ll accept UMD. At this point, UVA Echols seems like the better opportunity since we live in state.

Stats are important but parents ability to pay is also considered even if they call them merit scholarships. I know a kid with max stats (1600, 4.0/4.95) that got only a Dean scholarship (2k only for the first year). Parents have 529 fully founded to cover all UMD in-state costs.

It is only $1500 for the first year, not 2k. Stats are correct and proven. The kid is a senior at Blair. Many others with similar stats didn't get anything.

We a were offered the max OOS merit and we are full pay/did not apply for aid I’m wondering why PP thinks ability to pay is part of merit.
