Larry Hogan runs his mouth

Anonymous

Larry Hogan seems to be making a point of asserting his supposed alliance with what “all the Maryland police” — suggesting that they will “ignore” a new law. “Ignore” is one of those privileged words. Like: privileged people get to “ignore” laws while the less privileged “break” them and are punished for “resisting” them. I guess the great white hope wants to run again? He might not be a hard core Trumpy, but he sure seems to want to stir up trouble and contrast his Republican viewpoints with those of the Democratic leaders.

Federal immigration law is supreme over conflicting state laws.

The problem is... there are numerous instances of police in DC and surrounding suburbs helping ICE directly.

It's sad.

And the constitution and due process are supreme over ICE officials’ pronouncements. Need judicial warrants, not administrative warrants signed by corrupt and lawless ICE admin. Follow the law and all will be fine.

Very disappointed in Hogan.

"The great white hope"? Wow, OP. You're not racist at all.

The Constitution also says that citizenship and immigration and exclusively federal responsibilities. Not for local law enforcement to deal with.

The local police and jails can always notify ICE when someone is going to be released, but detaining them until that happens is considered a new seizure under the 4th amendment and it is illegal. Local authorities can and will be sued if they do that.

We saw for years in DC the opposite is true.

Care to elaborate?

You’ll have to understand what racism is, and I’m not confident that you do.

Oh, I understand perfectly. You embody it. Do try and back peddle by explaining what you "really" meant.

I would vote for hogan in a heartbeat. I’m a registered dem suburban mom and I’m unhappy with moore’s fiscal irresponsibility, failure to deal with our energy crisis, and absurd gerrymandering (and no I don’t buy the ‘they did it first argument this isn’t preschool.)

I desperately hope the democrats run someone moderate like Shapiro or hochul and not pick Moore or newsom who throw their own state under the bus to score national political points.

I have zero faith in any Republican to solve an energy crisis. They don't want solutions that will help. But hey, more coal and more mercury in our local seafood! Just top it off with some Old Bay.

Moore is actually fairly moderate. I like his tough on crime approach. I also like his commonsense approach to helping people with a hand up.

The energy issue is a crisis, but it’s one that he inherited rather than created. And it’s a tough one to address given the stakeholders and aging infrastructure.

Re: gerrymandering - While I’m generally not a fan, as a lifelong Democrat, I’m sick of the party always taking the high road and playing by the rules…especially now when the President and the Republicans have set the world on fire, openly break the law, and have thrown ethics and the constitution out the window. Unless you want more of what the Republicans are offering, pinch your nose and get on board with the milquetoast gerrymandering that pales in comparison with literally everything the R’s have done.

PS - I liked a lot of what Hogan did during his first term, but he’s proven himself to be a thin-skinned Republican who is struggling with his irrelevance. He hasn’t demonstrated any interest in helping us overcome this divisive climate. No clue why anyone cares what he thinks.
