Any chance for Skyview (previously Western) High School opt-in out of current boundaries?

Anonymous
Any intel on whether they filled their classes with the limited boundary opt-in and whether other Fairfax schools might have a chance of also opting in? My rising 9th grader is so eager to get in (has wanted to be a pilot since 6 yrs old and so excited that there is a high school that has pilot training), but we are in the Marshall HS Fairfax boundaries.

Marshall HS was never eligible to opt-in. I don't think they'd open up opt-in to other HSs because the whole point of opt-in is to gauge interests in potential HSs that are in-boundary candidates, such as South Lake, Oakton, Westfield etc.

I suggest you should look into Curriculum Program transfer https://www.fcps.edu/about-fcps/registration/transfer-information/high-school-curricular-program

You might apply for this program to attend desired school for unique curriculums they provide. Of course, I have no idea if Skyview is offering the aviation courses your son is interested in, or when they are going to publish aviation related curriculum for us to see, but this is the general approach I'd take for Marshall to Skyview transfer.

Email the Principal and ask. The email that was sent to students who opted in said there was still space and that they would be looking outside the five schools. This is what was sent

"We have almost hit our enrollment targets for students from the Centreville, Chantilly, Oakton, South Lakes, and Westfield pyramids. We will now begin our rolling admissions process, which will include students within and outside of the five priority pyramids. These students will be enrolled on a first-come, first-served basis. "

It did not say how to go about doing this.

They probably don’t want to publicize generally that they didn’t hit their target with kids who applied by the initial mid-January deadline.

I don't believe I have seen anything about pilot training. Reid wants an aviation career path--but, that is still to be determined.

Do your research before you call people trolls. They have definitely alluded to potential pilot training courses.

See bolded.
They alluded to a lot of things. Nowhere have they said this will definitely be offered. And, the boundary to the Marshall district is quite some distance away.

And, they have also said career pathways will not kick in this year.

The electives for the pathways are more classes you take as a Junior or Senior. I think the class offerings were approved this year.

You said earlier that you had not seen “anything” about potential pilot training. Now you’re changing the goalposts and saying it’s not definite.

You should have just apologized to OP for being wrong, and not doubled down on being annoying. If they can’t fill Skyview’s initial classes from within the five pyramids initially targeted, then an interested Marshall student ought to be able to explore enrollment.

Does your son know they may not offer pilot training? I would ask that question, too.
