Unfamiliar iPhone showing up in my Find My

Anonymous
I have Find My on my phone. We have 3 devices (2 phones, 1 apple watch) in my family that show up there, but suddenly a 4th phone is showing up. It is simply named "iPhone (4)". It showed up yesterday. It's been moving around, and has been charged. It's showing up as mine.

My son has a history of losing phones, but hasn't in the past 6 months or so, so could it be one he lost that someone just charged. Or it could be some kind of glitch and we are linked by mistake.

Any suggestions? Should I declare it lost, and then put my #? I would hate to deactivate someone's phone if it's a glitch.

Is the phone near you?

Did you previously trade in/sell old iPhone?

It's moving around but has been between 1/2 an hour and an hour away.

I have not. My son has lost iPhones, but not traded them in.

That happens to us when our kid uses their airpods on a friends phone for some reason.

My iPhone shows up in Find My along with the rest of my family’s phones. It sounds like your phone is now visible to you. Or was your phone one of the two phones already visible?

My iPhone has always been visible to me. Also, I can see this phone an hour away from my house, while I'm in my house looking at Find My on my own phone.

If your son reset his phone it might show up as a new device. Does it show an owner? Or do you all share the same icloud account ?

I would remove it, they can track and possibly reset your phones

His phone is showing up fine, it didn't go away. And some of the time when the new phone has been showing up, he's been with me and his phone was in his hand.

It shows me, not him, as the owner.

Who is “we” just you and uour kid? Do you have parental controls on his phone?

I just checked Find My, and I have listed 11 AirPods belonging to friends of my kids/former house guests. No unidentified phone, though. Google suggests you should remove the device, change your Apple password, and turn on two-factor authentication.

I can't imagine an iphone 4 would still work

It’s not an iPhone 4, it’s a fourth iPhone on the list.

Op, where is its location? Is it showing up as in your home?

My son and I are the only ones with apple devices. So the only ones in the “we”.

He is 18 and I no longer have parental controls but do have find my because of his tendency to lose devices.

No it is showing up about an hour away and moving. It has gone from Baltimore into DC and back, I live in MoCo.
