More Taxes-Moco

Unbelievable. we have almost a $4b budget for MCPS, we also just had property assessments in Maryland where almost everyones property taxes are going up and they want to raise it more.

Maryland is one of the leaders in negative net migration and yet, they continue to make it more expensive.

https://bethesdamagazine.com/2026/02/12/elrich-fani-gonzalez-consider-tax-increase-mcps-construction-projects/

its time for a tax revolt in Maryland.

It's past time for such a revolt. This is ridiculous. How about they cut some spending instead of passing virtue signaling bills about loving immigrants?

Definitely. Where are we supposed to get the money for even more property taxes???

Eventually, this county will run out of high earners and very high taxpayers and then what...

Can you name a local or decent county where taxes haven't gone up? Prices are going up everywhere. Do you not think our teachers should make a decent wage?

I think there's one dude, probably located in Ethiopia or Turkey (https://www.foxnews.com/politics/xs-new-location-feature-exposes-apparent-fraudster-accounts-posing-americans-gaza-journalists), whose job it is to complain about how property taxes in Moco are used to fund public schools.

But you don’t even live here.

I’m not paying a cent for declining enrollment. Taylor has shared building utilization data. Close the buildings that are too expensive to fix or rebuild. Adjust boundaries so all functional buildings are at equal capacity.

Who does Fani thinks she represents? Not me. I can’t afford more taxes.

Now we see why these faux democrats like a fried son were pushing Thrive 2050. They want housing density to squeeze money from the working class.

How about we tax the rich folks more for the schools? Don’t they need an educated working class to keep money in their pockets?

Total clown show.

See, property assessments are already up by a lot -- 12.2% to be exact:
https://bethesdamagazine.com/2026/01/06/moco-property-values-increase-by-12-2-in-2026-state-reassessment/

What this means is by doing nothing, the County is already receving more revenue because tax revenue is based on assessed values, which has gone up.

So... they are already getting more money. Meanwhile, MCPS enrollment is down and will continue that way:
https://bethesdamagazine.com/2025/11/04/mcps-enrollment-declines/

Meaning if they keep spending per student steady, they should not need to increase the budget much as there are fewer students to educate.

To make things even worse, the quality of education is in freefall.

When my mandatory spending goes up, my discretional spending goes down. Is the MoCo budget all mandatory spending?

The state is getting a shh!tl0ad if $$$ from casinos and online gambling. Billions are going to schools. What are the schools doing with it???? I am so tired of higher taxes, higher restaurant prices and higher tips and ridiculous service fees.

Get your thoughts in:

Elrich is seeking feedback for how taxpayer money should be spent for FY27.

This is a good opportunity to let Council know that MCPS funding should not be increased. This way it will be harder for MCPS to implement the inequitable regional model should it get passed.

From the press release:

The County is in the early stages of formulating the FY27 operating budget. County Executive Elrich is required to submit a recommended budget to the County Council by Monday, March 16, 2026. The Council will then have two months to review the budget. It must adopt a final budget no later than June 1. The FY27 operating budget will go into effect on July 1.

“I urge every resident to participate in these discussions; your feedback shapes our future,” said County Executive Marc Elrich. “We host these community conversations to garner input and feedback on how tax dollars are spent. We gain valuable insights from these conversations that help guide our decisions and priorities for the upcoming fiscal year. The budget reflects our community’s goals and values. With one forum in each of the five regions of the County, along with conversations conducted in multiple languages, there are multiple opportunities to participate and be heard.”

Hah, the casino revenue thing was a scam to be able to spend more on projects otehr than schools.

The claim was that gambling revenues woudl go to schools. They do, but then they just reduced the amount of money going ot schools from the general budget pot accordingly, and instead used that money on other projects.
