Anonymous
age 54- menopause just started
Migraines (no aura)
Risk of Breast cancer - 21% (mother had DCIS and I have dense breasts)
Osteopenia
No or minimal hot flashes
anxiety - nothing new
zero libido
gained 20lbs over 2 years but was 100 lbs before
fall asleep fine but wake up middle of night a lot (to pee or from stress)

I am likely going to try them and see if I feel better (low dose bio identical)

Concerns are BC, stroke, migraines worse. Pros bones and other protective measures

I would not take any hormones. But I am not a doctor. I was told never to take hormones because of the cancer risk.. now studies say hormones are safe. Still, I wouldn’t take them.

Who told you never to take them and when? Just asking since it’s apparently not an issue anymore or a very minimal one.

How old was your mom when diagnosed and was it ER/PR+? Did she get tested for a gene mutation?

With that breast cancer risk? Absolutely no way. You are in the one group that shouldn’t even consider it (so am I).

Was it er/pr+? If so, I would not take hormones.

No idea. It was DCIS that’s all I know. She has passed away (unrelated)

I’d start with progesterone for the sleep, vaginal estrogen, and possibly testosterone. Then add estrogen patch if that doesn’t resolve your issues

B/c risk of cancer is too high.

Yes and I’d want a dose that helped me with energy, sleep, muscle recovery and I’d use those gains to double down on healthy living esp sleep, diet and exercise bc those things decrease risk of BC. I’d also give up smoking or drinking if those were indulgences from my younger years. And I’d invest in BC screening and testing.
