First colonoscopy on Thursday

I’m starting fluids only tomorrow. Have bone broth and will plan on mixing crystal light lemonade with the colon prep fluid. What other things should I consider/plan for to be more comfortable? This is my first time and I’m super nervous

Hi OP there’s been other threads on this topic in recent months that you can check. Colonoscopy is not bad at all. They put you under anesthesia. Follow instructions from your doctor but I think you can have jello and Gatorade too. Maybe make it into a popsicle. I personally didn’t have any issues with the restroom. Just stay hydrated and you should be fine. I was able to get about six hours of sleep the night before - so not bad.

After the procedure, I was groggy for a few hours and just eased back into gradually eating easy to digest stuff for a while. By dinner I felt mostly back to normal. Definitely have someone drive you home for safety. GL!

I used Vaseline on my anus to prevent chapping. Soft tp.
Nothing red purple or orange.

A couple hints: make sure the solution is chilled and drink it with a straw to bypass taste buds. My prep allowed peppermint (white) lifesavers and that helped. Agree with the poster above about Jello— it helps fill you up.

You might want to have ginger ale or peppermint tea on hand in case you feel sick to your stomach. Best of luck to you!

It's truly no big deal. Just follow the directions they gave you exactly. No cheating, not even a little bit.

Make sure your output is very pale and almost clear at the end of your prep.

The actual procedure is totally nothing. Literally, because you’re asleep. It’s the pooping constantly the day before that’s the hassle.

NP. My colonoscopy (second one) is about a month and a half away. I currently have hemorrhoids. The doctor says they can do the procedure even if the hemorrhoids are still there by then, but I am nervous. Has anyone had a colonoscopy while they had hemorrhoids? Was there extra pain?

I loved it.

Detoxed and got cleaned out, then took an amazing propofol nap, then had some delicious juice and a meal.

Thanks. The procedure I’m not super nervous about. It’s the prep.

I e read online of people who eat lighter for a few days before the procedure and it makes sense// less to clear out. For my next or, I plan to do the same. Not clear liquids necessarily, but not super high fiber either.

My DH has had several colonoscopies while having hemorrhoids. He didn’t have any extra pain.

Probably too late, but choosing the right appointment time is critical.

Yes! The jello is really nice to have something that feels like solid food even though it really isn’t.
