when in grade4, he scored 79/96 in Kangaroo
when in grade5, he scored 97/120 now in grade 7, he gets 16/25 in AMC8. And he keeps saying he is not lucky because he has guessed 7 and none is correct. I don't care about the score. The trend is not good. |
| Obviously, the beatings should continue. |
| His most energy is consumed by games. |
| Not all smart and mathematically gifted kids are willing to grind math contest problems. Burnout is real. Some kids are naturally fast runners but don't want to join the track team. Some tall kids think basketball is boring. You have to accept that natural ability or advantage doesn't always align with interests. |
| The questions get harder and your kid doesn’t seem interested. |
Time to step up to blood-letting. |
Did OP skip public shaming? Because that’s a crucial step. |
Remove all games and replace with math games. |
| Disowning is what I’d do here. Forget this child. Hopefully you have another one you can pin all your hopes and dreams on. |
What’s that poison they use on Season 3 of the White Lotus? |
| it gets harder. My kid was WAY above reading level in elementary. He is average in high school. |
+1. OP’s kid is beyond help. Hopefully they can get a vocational job, because college is our if the question. |

I am the OP
I did asked my kid what else he is interested in, he couldn't find one. Seriously speaking, games does take away quite lot enginery from him. But what can I do, now almost every kid plays more or less. I am not serious about the math competetion. Just want to find something meaningful for him. |
It is too late. And I want him to have broader interests. But looks like game is pretty much all his interests. |
well said. |
