Jobs for 14 year olds

My 14 year old DC wants to get a small job so that she can earn money. She was thinking something like Amc theaters or maybe a cashier somewhere? Does anyone have any recommendations?

Most businesses won’t hire 14 yr olds. Too many restrictions.

If you live in DC, sign up for the Mayor youth job program. They have jobs for 14 year olds.

+1. Try babysitting, dog walking, etc.

^^ can lifeguard at 15, but until then, babysitting is the best option and pays well for teens. Pet sitting and dog walking is good too

My 13yo does mothers helper/babysitting for 3 hours every other weekend and dog walking for close neighbors when they are away.

This. The pay is extremely low, but it is beneficial work experience.

Babysitting
Dog walking
Moving/rajing/shoveling for elderly neighbors
Mothers helpers for wfh moms

My kid walks dogs and also does house sitter-type duties (waters plants, cares for cats, checks mail, turns lights on and off).

She needs to hit the neighborhood for dog walking, shoveling, etc., or check with the public library - they usually have a handle on jobs.

I think some of the NOVA parks have summer teen jobs for 14 year olds. Not many roles, but stuff like concession cashier.

Watermine in Reston will hire 14 year olds as slide monitors.

Ref or ump for rec sports leagues (at least the ones near us in nova use 14+ year olds for the younger age groups). Teen would need to know the sport although doesn’t have to be a star.
