North Carolina or South Carolina for raising kids and attending college

I am considering a move to Charlotte and can live in North or South Carolina. What are some positives and negatives of each state? How do they compare to each other? Would you rate the college experience of one state over the other for someone looking at public colleges?

NC has better colleges and more areas that are not MAGA.

My take as someone who visits Charlotte twice a year is it’s a fairly boring city and suburbia compared to close-in DMV.

I guess you folks don’t understand the geography of Charlotte. It’s only like 10 miles north of the SC border, so OP is just asking if they should live in NC or SC…but they are literally in the same place.

I do agree with others…UNC and NC State are better than South Carolina or Clemson for in state, and your odds of acceptance in state are significantly higher for UNC.

I grew up in SC. Please, if you are from the DMV, move to NC.

Native North Carolinian so I'm biased but I recommend NC over SC.

For college, the UNC system has 16 universities across the state so lots of opportunity to find a good fit, from the mountains to the coast and the piedmont in between. And several well-regarded private universities as well.

I have to agree. Have family in SC. Better college system, much better public schools, though I'd probably use private. Taxes are probably lower in SC, but I find it to be very racist and backwards.

I am from South Carolina and for a DMV transplant. I recommend Charlotte itself.

The colleges are better for sure in North Carolina. Although Clemson is getting really popular and USC is fine.

Put North Carolina is just better governed and less Maga-y. Yes, the taxes are a little bit lower in South Carolina but you get what you pay for it. Mecklenburg County has way better services and there are more transplants in Mecklenburg County so it’s less good old boyish. South of the border it matters more who your daddy was and what he did.
