Can someone school me on vaping? Are kids smoking tobacco, weed or both when vaping? I have a 7th grader and have overheard a couple of kids in the class have tried this, so need to have a sit down with my kid. Seems so early.

They can vape whatever chemical is put in there. Normally it’s nicotine, but it can be THC or worse. It’s awful! They can even put fentanyl in a vape.

….and yes middle school kids are doing it. One of my colleague’s kids got kicked out of a “good” public school (7th grade) for making and selling her own vape cartridges- she didn’t vape herself but did start a business in the middle school. My DD is at one of the best private schools in the city and complains there are people vaping in the locker room - there are ineffective sensors and cameras cannot be set up in the locker room.

2023 random useless source - I live in the real world and no one is just randomly putting fent in vapes. Could there be some random cross contamination for some one off thing - sure! What your tweens are doing is not vaping fent. Just stop with the useless scare tactics. It does more harm than good.

Let your kids continue to vape. I’ll educate mine about all the possible dangers. I already do that with date rape drug in drinks served by guys and of course drugs in general. Then again I know I’m the uncool mom who doesn’t think that it’s ok for teens to drink either. On that topic - I also educate them on the impact of alcohol on a growing brain. You do you. Knowledge is power - you can ostrich your way through if you want.

My kids don't vape, and I also know that talking about fentanyl in vapes is wildly incorrect. When you make ridiculous claims, you lose any semblance of authority/trustworthiness. As I said, you are doing more harm than good

They sell disposable vapes for $15-$30 at the seedy vape stores/gas stations/connivence stores.

I’m here to tell you that the kids can buy vapes and e pens on Temu. They can also buy cartridges that say they are THC – in code of course because Temu can’t sell that - and they’re quite cheap. Do you think that’s actual THC? Hell no there’s other stuff in it and could potentially be fent.

According to my 8th grade daughter at a large public school, the vaping has really escalated in 8th grade. She can smell it in the bathrooms. Kids vape at the back of the bus. And now, there are girl/boy parties where she hears a lot of drinking and vaping is happening. Now, she hasn’t actually been to one of these parties, so I don’t know how much is being exaggerated.

I will also say that it mostly seems to be the wealthy, popular kids with good grades that are going to these parties. She says all the popular cute boys say they drink and vape. And these parties seem to mostly be hosted by private school kids, and they invite kids from a variety of schools that they know from travel sports.


My daughter and her 4 close friends are not “in” with this cross-school group. I’m quite pleased with that. I was encouraging her to try to be friendlier with a girl in our neighborhood, but I’ve learned that she talks about drinking so I’m certainly not encouraging that friendship anymore.

In case you're dense - fentanyl contamination is usually from your local street dealer working with various opiates. THC users aren't looking for that at all and dealers aren't in the business of killing their users/giving them crap. They want repeat business and those drugs are so insanely different and not to mention how they work in different forms. Some random vape from temu still wants repeat business and again it's not something you stick in a vape. But please give me a source of TEMU fent laced vape other than your mind.
