Make this make sense.
UVA hates VA privates is the explanation we are primarily hearing. |
| Yield protection. |
|
Awful. Genuinely.
And we're OOS. We'd be livid if we were in your shoes - especially if UVA was clearly the first choice or if cost were an issue. |
|
UVA holds an extremely high bar at DMV privates. At the private my kid graduated from last year every kid admitted to UVA EA or RD was also admitted to an Ivy and most of these were HYP.
Multiple kids were admitted to an Ivy and deferred/waitlisted by UVA. |
|
UVA isn’t really known for yield protection.
We are in state. It does not make sense. 1540 top 20 percent of class. Statistically, the odds of getting Michigan and UGA and UNC were much slimmer then getting UVA. |
| Than |
That's crystal clear yield protection. |
|
What's the major?
Deferral is not a no. |
| Just go to one of those other three, not sure the point of this thread. The pool of kids applying to UVA from your school was likely larger and more competitive than those applying to MI, UNC, and especially UGA. |
|
Michigan is a MUCH easier admit than UVA at most of the top DC privates.
You can get into Michigan from the 2 schools I've had kids at with a 3.65 but UVA requires a 3.85 minimum. I don't know why this. I always assumed it was due to the fact that Michigan is twice the size. |
UVA is not clearly first choice since didn’t apply ED. |
|
Yes, it was ED.
Deferral. |
| UVA is just making room for full pay, OOS students. |
| Higher ranked students from your school applied to UVA ? |
DC and VA kids are rare at Michigan. They have to go deeper into the pool to yield some. Because UVA is at minimum a better deal for Virginians. MoCo has a fanbase. |
