I am leaving my toxic job. My boss is a MICRO manager. HER boss is actually quite nice.
I want to tell her boss and have her boss deliver the news. Will that get the message across? |
|
It depends on your company's HR policies, FYI. In my company, resignations have to be delivered to your immediate manager and HR.
If you did that in my company, your boss' boss would instruct you to deliver the news to your boss and HR and wouldn't do it for you. |
| Don't be petty in front of boss's boss on the way out. |
| Not sure what results you're looking for but my coworker just quit for similar reasons and nothing has changed for the rest of us. |
| Don't do that. You can send your boss email and cc boss's boss if you really want to go that route but jumping over is not a good idea. Make sure you leave. |
| I don't see an issue in chatting with the boss' boss and then sending email to your direct boss with all necessary parties CCed. |
| Don't do that. (I've left for same reason.) Follow whatever HR policy is - get in writing or verbal form to direct boss typically. Leave on good note. But after that step done - sure, use exit interview or initiative confidential brief chat with boss' boss (but still chance info could be shared.) Sorry for your tough time. |
This. Email your boss, thank you for the opportunity, my last day will be x. |
| Oh please, her boss is being nice to you because it’s good cop bad cop. Whatever. Don’t be petty. Just go. |
| I think OP is right. Micromanagers can't and shouldn't be good and responsible managers. Her boss needs to know that her style is actually causing more pain than less. |
Your post says a lot about you than your boss. Just close things out properly and go. |
| Why would you do this? You'll have burned bridges with both your boss AND your boss' boss. I would really view someone who went around their boss to come to me with a resignation and expected me to deliver the news as immature. |
OP is. |

Be prepared to back up your claims if you say anything. Otherwise it’s just whining. I have gone around a bad boss and reported a hostile
work environment. There was an HR investigation and the boss was replaced. Multiple people gave sworn statements. If it’s that bad, say something, otherwise move on. |
| Please just leave quietly to protect yourself. Very unlikely any good could happen from what you outline. One never knows who will reappear later somewhere else in ine's workplace career. |
