Looking for recommendations for family of four, walkable near sights, canal/water, not crappy but not 1K a night. Recommendations?
Sorry hotels in Venice!
If you get the junior suite at Pensione Accademia they will put extra beds in the sitting room. Think those rooms also are on the internal courtyard with a patio. Great location. Will have more character than space but also will probably only be like $400/night.

If you're open to an apartment, we've had good luck with this company before. https://www.viewsonvenice.com/ |
We liked the Hotel Concordia
We liked the location and buffet breakfast at hotel san cassiano ca'favretto in Venice, it has its own water port so we were able to take water taxi from and to airport with ease. It’s 5 min walk to Rialto’s bridge and 12 min walk to St. Marks square/ St. Mark’s basilica, where you can also ride either gondola or public water bus and get around. Also recommend book tour for Murano island etc.
I sent someone to my favorite place, Hotel Palazzo Vitturi, and she also gave it a thumbs-up. It's on Campo Santa Maria Formosa, one of the largest open-air squares in the city, where you can enjoy coffee and view the bustle of the fruit vendors, families walking dogs, and even nuns going to and from the church. It's an easy walk to major sites but a bit removed from the noise and crush of tourists. Very reasonable, too.
We loved the JW Marriott. It is on its own island - Isla de la Rosa. They take you by boat back and forth which is part of the fun (and free). We'd go in the morning, see the sights, return for an afternoon at the pool/spa and the head back over for dinner in the evening which was so nice with most of the tourists gone.
Hotel Olympia was beautiful and budget friendly.
Palazzo Stern - located on grand canal and you came at breakfast on the outdoor patio - reasonably priced

We stayed at the Hotel a La Commedia two years ago and it was a little gem. Loved it. They communicated with us frequently before we arrived and set up transportation, rooms were very old world but nice, breakfast etc. And a great location. |
We stayed at the Hotel Rosa Salva. Really good family room. About a 5 min walk to the main square. Breakfast is not included but they own a bakery downstairs too and you get a little discount there I think.
Venice is a great city to get an AirBNB. We did and it was perfect.
Thanks all! Going Airbnb because could not stomach paying 1000 USD for a hotel room.
You got a half dozen hotel reccs and I’d be surprised if any of them were $1k a night?
