| My child in on track to be taking DE Multivariable Calc senior year. However, the class is only offered through FCPS Online at her school. Has anyone's child taken it? Any insights? Would we be better having him take the course directly at Mason or NOVA? |
| Take him in person. Based on my understanding, online is offered once a week, and you have to do the rest of the work/teaching yourself. (My friends kid did a class through FCPS online, and ended with a D… not worth it) |
| My DD's school no longer offers this class as DE. It's regular and she'll be a senior next year |
Were you answering someone else’s question? |
DE is offered by the CC, not the HS |
DE means credit granted from a college and simultaneous credit granted from high school. The class can be taught at the college (in person or online) or at the high school, depending on local arrangement. Some FCPS high schools (including TJ) have some DE classes at the high school. A school can also choose to not start with setting up DE at all, and just offer their own class with no college credit. (But PP might be confused and not realize that their in school class actually is DE). |
| The school my DD is at stopped offering the DE class through the HS. She's taking three DEs at the HS, just this class is not this one year (where it used to be DE). She's not happy about the change. This is at South Lakes. |
Actually, in FCPS: - class taught in the HS/online through FCPS = DE (kid gets credit both at the college and HS) - class taught at a college for which FCPS also grants credit = concurrent enrollment So while both grant reciprocal credit, it is not called DE if taught at a college (in FCPS) |
This class changed from DE to ADV; on a different thread one poster said that the requirements to teach DE from NOVA got more stringent. A lot of the DE teachers were no longer qualified. |
