Anyone knows the difference between self-directed vs online campus Econ and Personal Finance course?
Remember some kids select this course during 8th grade summer. What is the purpose of doing this? Is it a high school requirement course? Or if you are not aiming for Finance or related major, you don't have to select this course? Another question: Can you select more than one course during 8th grade summer? Thank you! |

All of the information about the courses and the requirement is here:
https://www.fcps.edu/academics/high/economics-and-personal-finance This is an FCPS-wide requirement and not specific to AAP, so it's unclear why you've posted ion this forum. |
| The purpose of taking this and other courses over the summer for most kids in our friend group is so that they can free up an elective spot in their schedule. My DD took online PE over the summer so that she could take her two preferred electives and a language during the school year. Otherwise PE would have taken up one of those slots for the entire year. |
| NP. Thank you for the link. For the summer course with the teacher, are the videos recorded or is there a specific time of day that students need to be available? |
Only self directed EPF for pass/fail can be taken in addition to a for-grade credit course like PE, Lang, math, etc. The other online campus version is for-grade, and most of content is also self-paced but depending on teacher, they meet at specific time during the week. EPF is virgina-state mandated requirement, but can also be met with AP econ macro/micro taken for grade. |
