Too many reminders!

Maybe I am just getting old, but is anyone else feeling overwhlemed by the number of reminders, emails, texts that doctors' offices, trades, and seemingly everyone else is sending for appointments? I had my annual with my OBGYN today and received at least 5 texts to confirm the appt, remind me, send me registration info, etc etc. I have an HVAC repair person coming this week. So far I have received three texts and two emails reminding me of this appointment. I have tried to stop texts from providers but then they start again after the next appointment, I guess because I have confirmed my information. Also, I want these offices to have my email and phone number. I just want them to use it more judiciously!

Is there some epidemic of people forgetting appointments that requires so much outreach? Between appointments for myself, my child, and our house, it's a lot. I find it really irritating.

Welp. When we don’t send them and folks get charged for missed appointments they blame up for not predicting their specific confirmation/reminder need. Some want calls, some want texts or emails, some want none at all. Yet they still fail to note the appointment and ask if we sent a reminder. 🤦‍♀️

I'm Type A and I like it. I make a lot of these appts like dentists 6 months in advance and the reminder is nice.

The only ones that annoy me are the "check in online" ones for medical appts, but then I still somehow still have to check in when I arrive. Make it stop.

Doctors appointments I can handle, but its the constant bombardment from restaurants that I hate. What if you go out to dinner more than 1x a week - it becomes constant.

When the restaurants, doctors, etc. text and email afterwards hoping you'll review them, that is really too much.

Agree but I have learned the cadence and just pay attention to the one that requires me to confirm the appointment. I do try to turn off the phone reminders because those are disruptive.

I also get annoyed with hotel reminders (mostly for work travel) asking me to check in in advance, upload my drivers license, etc. I just don't do it, they can do it much more efficiently when I arrive.

I agree, but I kind of like it because when they send the reminder the day before, it bumps it to the top of my texts, and that makes it easier to click on the address for my GPS.

OP here. See, I am also Type A so I set a calendar and email reminder for myself for all these appointments, especially ones that are scheduled so far out. Maybe this is why I feel suffocated, I'm partly to blame! But I just thought it was our responsibility once we set the appointment to remember it.

And yes, grr to doing all the steps in the portal and then having to repeat everything once you arrive.

That is really frustrating!

Yes, this is also an issue with hotels. I just ignore all of those messages and let them handle things when I arrive.

As someone with ADHD I LOVE all of the redundant reminders for the doctor appointments - lol yes please I do actually need to be reminded both via text and email

So funny you posted this, OP. I had the same thought today as I left the oral surgeon, not ever 10 steps out the door on my way to the car when they texted me to remind me about my “upcoming appointment” in TWO WEEKS. No kidding, I just made the appointment one minute ago!

Before the appointment, they texted SIX times since I booked the first appointment on December 15th.

I like it when the reminders will sync up with my calendar. Especially because I can then easily share them with DH so he will have stuff like the kids dentist appointments or the date out HVAC guy is coming for an annual check, without me needing to remind him.

Yes, too many reminders for hair appointments and dr appointments. And what really enrages me is none of them say the address! I don't need an email AND a text. Just one.

Yes to 1 reminder. Separately I wish people would get out of the habit of sending strangely timed texts like late at night/early in morning. Got a 7:30 am Sunday text welcoming child to a class and each year get 6:30 am happy birthday texts.

I agree. I text stop and they usually stop until your next appointment then like that happened to me last week they added me yet again. Obnoxious af.
