Son extremely upset over Jerome Powell

Anonymous
DS, 16, has always been a bit interested in politics and at one point he was able to meet Jerome Powell. During this past year his interest has faded a bit, he’s become more interested in football and his friends. However with the recent subpoena of Jerome Powell he’s become absolutely devastated. He was bawling last night and I practically had to drag him to school this morning. When the administration did other terrible things he was mostly level headed but this is new for him.

Is your kid suffering from depression and/or anxiety? That sounds extreme, OP.

Sounds like he is aware of what this may mean for Powell, central bank, and for our economy. It’s terrible. I don’t blame him, especially since he met him and admires him. It’s normal to be upset seeing your hero treated unjustly.

Your kid met Powell?

Nice!

I must admit he seems like a bada$$ in his own way

Im sure other old people must envy that

I don’t have any good advice. My instinct is that it’s probably not really all about Jerome Powell. There’s been so much horrifying crap coming out of this administration and Jerome Powell is probably the proverbial straw that breaks the camel’s back. I honestly don’t know how any of us continue to function given the lawlessness of this administration and the MAGA supporters who continue to support it.

Exactly. But he needs to get it together, otherwise he won't survive these difficult times. It's going to get worse before it gets better, OP, and he needs to find a way to hold on. This is about resilience. Tell him that.

No one really cares until it impacts them.

What is with all the ridiculous trolling lately?! There is zero chance a 16 year old who had a “bit” of interest in politics but is otherwise focused on football and friends was bawling over a subpoena to Jerome Powell and had to be dragged to school because of it.

Clearly, you don't have a 16 year old boy. I'm not the OP, but my son cares very much about what is happening right now. Are you not under the impression that they are told at school that they have to register for the draft?

No advice, but sympathies. My son closely follows financial markets too. He dressed as a "bond market vigilante" for halloween in 1st grade.

Football?!
Good lord. My kids discussed politics in high school classes openly, and economic issues, and still do so in college. This directly relates to his financial future if things unravel.

Exactly. My 16 year old son is very interested and involved in what is going on.
