I tend to do my errands around 2pm in Arlington and have seen 7-8 different boys in MS or HS riding dirt bikes **in the road** in this week. They’re all wearing helmets but their bodies are no match for a car if they get hit.
How is this legal??? And who are the parents allowing this? I’ve see these boys on Lee Highway and Glebe Rd in N ARL… |
| I don't know about the state of Virginia. In some other states there is a right of way between off road trails. Or just pushing the envelope. |
| I’m no longer in the DMV but this is a big problem in my town. It’s mostly middle schoolers. Not only are they on the roads but also going over the trail speed limits when on the trails. I don’t get why parents buy these things for 13 year olds. That’s not the popular know for caution and good decision making. |
| In Montgomery County it's electric bikes. They are for all intents and purposes unlicensed motorcycles. They ride on the Capital Crescent Trail, on roads, etc. and seem to take pride in menacing pedestrians. The cops have done absolutely nothing. Someone is going to get killed on the CCT, probably a pedestrian. I completely agree on parents providing these things to kids. It's wildly irresponsible. |
| It's bad parenting. |
| The parents are idiots. They are 7th and 8th grade boys. Call police non emergency when you see them. |
Thanks, I’ll do that. I was so stunned the first couple of times I saw them that I thought I must have been hallucinating. I should also say these could be electric bikes, I’m not sure. They were in a bike lane though. They were on the ROAD. Insanity |

IT IS INSANE!!!!!
This has been going on for months. I agree I couldn't believe it when I saw it. They are riding on Langston Blvd popping wheelies on e-bikes in full on traffic. For those not familiar with the area, this is a busy 4-lane highway with cars probably traveling up to 50 mph in stretches? It is beyond terrible parenting. I struggle to imagine what parents could possibly be thinking. Hey junior go ride an ebike in heavy traffic? Have fun! A kid is going to get killed doing it. And yes I have kids this age including a teen boy. I'm not some pearl clutching grandma. It's genuinely insane. |
| they are electric bikes that look like motorcycles and they can go fast. they are not against the law because before now there was no such thing as electric bikes. the laws will catch up, and soon there will be laws against them on the roads. |

I had one going top speed (28-30 mph) on E-bike run the red light at the Arlington Courthouse/Clarendon Blvd light by the CVs and missed me by inches….and then ran the next two red lights to go down Veitch and narrowly missed an 80-year old woman.
He was wearing a helmet but if he hit either of us at that speed we would have been very seriously injured, if not dead!!!! My neighbor runs on the bike trails and has seen a very bad collision between one of these and a regular bike. |
| ^ also middle schooler or HS. Around 3:30pm weekday |
+100 plus they aren’t even exercise. It’s essentially a mini motorcycle |

It's CPS level bad parenting. I don't understand it. It's DCUM crowd kids doing it too.
I sincerely need someone who lets their kids do this come on here and start arguing with us and explain it. I don't get it. |
| As an Arlington parent of a college age make and a high school Senior, a lot of Arlington parents give their kids whatever they want and are awful at parenting. Some do not belong behind the wheel of a car or motorbike/Ebike. |
