Rental house in OBX w/ 2 month old - fam has unvaccinated kids

Anonymous
Hi - my inlaws booked an OBX house for this summer with them + my husband’s 3 siblings and their spouses, all but one of which have kids.

1 sibling has 2 toddlers (will be 5 and 2) unvaccinated, another family has 2 toddlers (3 and 1) but on a “spaced out” vax schedule.

For this trip we’ll have a 2 yo (fully vaxxed) and a 2 month old (obviously not yet eligible to be vaxxed). I was not pregnant when this trip was booked.

I’ve told my husband (he agrees) that I will not be going with our 2 month old, so he’ll be taking the 2 year old alone. Not putting the newborn at risk.

Beyond that now I’m wondering if our 2 year old should even be around her unvaccinated cousins - this is NC and measles cases are starting up, even though she will be up to date for her age. Also curious how others would approach letting the families know. We haven’t let anyone know our plan. Thanks all!

Unvaccinated, like in no vaccinations at all? Sorry, no, we are not going. Do the live off the grid or are just super... I don't even know the word.

Yes no vaccinations at all…for either kid

Nope, no way. I would not let the 2 year old go.

While I think it’s insane they haven’t vacxed their kids, there are now unvaccinated kids all around us. But you just don’t know. I guess I wonder how your risk is any different?

I think your ped should weigh in on this.

Not really and not in such close quarters. A week where cousins are all over each other would be a huge no from me. Plus, the 2 year old will come back and possibly bring whatever plague back home with him to his sibling.

I honestly think the non vaxxers should have to stay home! The nerve, to even consider bringing unvaccinated kids on a vacation around a newborn.

Both of your kids should not attend.
Why is the unvaccinated family attending?

If one family if unvaxxed and the other is on a "spaced out" schedule, I'd guess OP and her family are the odd ones out in that group.

If your kids are fully vaccinated, you have nothing to worry about. Let the other families worry about their own.

No way. Let them fester in their nasty diseases and keep your family safe.

I would be annoyed if my DH burned his leave to go on this trip while leaving me alone with a 2 month old.

Yes… we walk among the living! My 3 year old is unvaxxed. Her 4 older siblings have all their shots.

I wouldn’t go, any of you. This could turn deadly for one of the kids.
