Someone please help. I love yoga, but I cannot find tops that stay in place for a whole class. I tug, and I tuck, and still THERE IS MY BELLY, and eventually THERE IS MY SPORTS BRA, and I am so tired of thinking about it when I am trying to get my zen on.
Have bought long yoga t-shirts, and yoga shirts that are a bit more snug at the belly, and some scratchy synthetic shirts with lots of elastic at the waist. Some do better than others but none stay in place through a full 45. The dude next to me the other night just took off his shirt all together, and I was so jealous. What, pray tell, is the secret? |
| Just practice in a sports bra and leggings or shorts. That is what I do and so do all of the other women at my studio. A lot of men practice in shorts. Everyone has towels to mop up sweat. |
| I'vebeen doing yoga for 25 years and haven't had this issue -- I wear very snug/elastic tank tops. |
| Yeah I also wear fitted tank tops. |
With a built-in sports bra |

Yes wear fitted tops that don't move when you exercise.
I remember going to class once and this woman was so distracting because she had huge implants and they looked like basketballs...so she was definitely flashing the world as she was doing the moves. |

OP - no implants here lol!
I wonder if I’m buying my tops just a little too big. I do tend to oversize so maybe my idea if “fitted” is just a little too loose. I’ll try sizing down - if that doesn’t do the trick I’ll try to make peace with the sports bra-only option. I’m definitely self conscious about my abdomen but maybe I just need to get over that. (Everyone is so busy with their own practice so I don’t even know why I think anyone will care. A lifetime of body-consciousness I guess.) Appreciate the responses! Namaste to all. |
| I go for the super cute look of tucking the front of my (long loose) shirt into my pants/shorts haha. |
| Fitted stretchy tanks. Or just wear the sports bra with high waisted yoga pants. |

I either wear fitted tops or I tuck a shirt into pants with a drawstring (drawstring helps things stay put, I've found). If you tuck, the shirts have to be longer.
Also, wearing higher waist leggings or joggers means I don't feel self conscious about my belly "hanging out" even in plank or down dog. I don't feel self conscious about my stomach generally but as a woman in my 40s who has had a kid, I'm not sure I'll ever be super enthusiastic about how my belly looks when it's literally hanging down below my body. Absent a tummy tuck, that's just the reality of my body at this point and I deal with it by wearing higher waist pants that keep me, or anyone else, from seeing it. |
| I’m a 60 year old yoga instructor and while I’m thin, I have a little pooch. I wear high neck compressive sports bras and high waisted shorts or leggings. The belly just doesn’t matter. My yoga is more important than how I look doing it., |
| Fitted tanks but also no one minds seeing someone's sports bra briefly. It's not flashing. Try to be less self conscious. |
| If the choice is between a looser shirt that occasionally reveals your sports bra, back, and belly and wearing only a sports bra that... also reveals your sports bra, back, and belly, it seems like the answer is that there is no option in yoga but to at least occasionally reveal those things, so pick one and don't give it another thought. (Unless a stretchy onesie of some kind is an option lol). |
| Easy. Unitard. |
