Has anyone actually read the new state framework? We need a strong campaign our state reps to prevent this from actually happening. It’s terrible. Check out the 3rd unit in 7th grade. How can kids comprehend this stuff when adults can’t? Our kids are about to get crushed. |
| 6 7! |
|
Why are you afraid of children learning?
If adults had studied it in school, they'd be able to comprehend it. That's why the standards need to be updated. |
"Because this framework covers a two-year course, units 1 – 4 are considered Grade 6 and units 5 – 8 are considered Grade 7, and they are coded accordingly. " Unit 3 is 6th Grade. Why are we teaching kids to read, when adults can't read??? |
|
The 3rd unit for 7th grade. There’s a 3rd unit for 6th grade. 4 units per year
You clearly didn’t actually read the standards. To jump from topic to topic this quickly, with no chronology at all, will just get the kids more lost than they already are |

It’s awful. I wonder if it was drafted by the MCPS curriculum office or if some of the MCPS curriculum “experts” transferred to the state office. It’s reminiscent of the SS curriculum my kids (now grown) had before Curriculum 2.0. Somehow, it simultaneously makes the subject dry and overly complicated while leaving huge gaps in content knowledge so that they have neither a comprehensive understanding of history nor geography.
I thought the linkage of pathogens and ideas in unit 4 was a particularly interesting choice, although they are certainly both significant change agents. |

| Omg I thought that social studies was incorporating 6-7. |
Are you not aware of the Great Meme Re-set of 2026? 67 is out and should no longer be mentioned. Now, off to bed for the both of you - it's a school night! |
From what I’ve heard, MCPS hates it and fought against it. This was written by the state. It’s terrible |
|
It’s the most important unit in the entire course. If we don’t start teaching our kids this, we are doomed to live in J6 world permanently. |
Same! |
Unfortunately, my second grader did not reset. I hope others have had more luck with it. However, she would be much more engaged in social studies if it did, in fact, incorporate 6-7. |
The 3rd unit covers power structures, which is indeed important. However, I would suggest that BECAUSE it is so important, that it should be taught better than this. A big part of the unit apparently talks about “democratic revolutions”, which is probably what many of the J6 rioters mistakenly imagined themselves to be engaging in. If we want to avoid a J6 world, maybe we should provide more context - like the Magna Carta, the Enlightenment, the Glorious Revolution, and especially the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Maybe if more people knew what was actually in the Constitution, they’d stop following a President who talks about abolishing parts of it that get in his way. |
