MCPS: major changes to summer school 2026

Anonymous

MCPS has posted major changes to summer school. Virtual options are eliminated except for health and engineering technology. All other courses are IN PERSON ONLY. Parents have not been notified; the website just changed without announcement. Many students need to work in the summer or have made travel plans, counting on the option for virtual school (as it has been offered in the past). Instead, students will be sent to only 6 regional schools. Changes to whether classes can be taken for grade replacement still have not been announced.

Parents had a fit about virtual school so they shut it down and are shutting the rest down. Dr. Taylor has been clear he is ant-virtual school, regardless of the need or hardship. Good luck with that.

I actually think this is a good idea. Virtual learning doesn't work for most kids, especially for core subjects.

There were 2 recent threads on summer school. Why is a third necessary?
