This is what he's proposing for next year
H. MWH AP Lang AP Mechanics MV/DE AP Chem (DP) AP Research I'm disappointed that he's not keeping his language but I don't see room for it. I suppose he could push Research to senior year. But I feel like trying to finish up a research paper at the end of the senior year is a recipe for senioritice. |
| Where does he want to go to college? Selective institutions want the language. |
| DP Chem is stupid, but not your kid's fault. I recommend taking an online AP course to fill the hole in the schedule. |
What would you give up for the language? |
| OP, is AP Mech the first physics course the kid took? I hope yes. |
No. He took H. Physics. |
Could you elaborate? Why is DP Chem stupid? As the schedule stands now, I don't see a hole. What am I missing? |
(That's assuming it's after Honors Chem. DP AP Chem as fist chem course is fine.) |
DP means "Double period”. It's one class spread across 2 slots. |
It's a bit light to repeat that for a whole year. Is AP Mech+E&M (single period) an option? Or AP Physics 2? That would more physics, less repetitive. Aside, did he take all of Honors Phys, Chem, and Bio in first 2 years? |
| AP Research is definitely worse than continuing language. |
Maybe AP Research can be an online AP, to make room for continuing language. |
Yes, he's taken H. Physics, Bio, and Chem already. AP Mech and AP E&M are each year long classes at our school. To take both would require 2 periods. AP Physics 2 is not offered next year. |
Why is it worse? It a class he's looking forward to. He wants to do the research project. I didn't see AP Research offered as an online course but I will look. |
Because foreign language is a core academic class to take before electives. |
