Spring Break—rethinking international travel?

Anonymous
With all of the recent Venezuela news, are you rethinking leaving the US for spring break? Am I just overreacting with the news hype and concerned that maybe now isn’t the time to go to Caribbean, Mexico, Costa Rica, Europe, etc?

We’re going to Europe still. Not really worried about flying in and out of Zurich.

We are going to Europe in May. Not worried about flying over there right now, but if these loonies decide to make a move on Greenland, I'll will probably decide to stay home. Can't imagine a warm reception in Europe, as our country tries to take over the world. Instead of a vacation, maybe I'll be putting my home up for sale and looking to get out of this country. I know that's much easier said than done, but may have to actually consider it. I can only take so much of this.

Going to the Caribbean. Not canceling.

Still planning to go to Mexico and not canceling. I’ll see how things are a couple of weeks before the trip. Our hotel is refundable and we can get flight credit.

I'm going to Denmark in March. If we make a move on Greenland ... I might get stuck in Denmark. Wouldn't that be just awful (he says drolly).

It's a reasonable question. This regime is hated both within America and by the world. The more they try to be imperialistic, the worse it's gonna get. Attacking a NATO country like Denmark to seize Greenland would invite WWIII. Only we'd be fighting Europe.

I just had a convo with a Mexican cab driver in which I was apologizing for our government and he was like “yeah, politicians are gojng to do their thing and take care of their friends and relatives. The rest of us just need to live our lives.” So I think in many countries if you are a decent person and treat people well, they understand (maybe better than us) that awful governments don’t mean awful people. That said, I wouldn’t go to Columbia and would be looking at refund terms for lots of other places that might be affected by whatever crazy happens next.

Um...Trump threatened Mexico too, like yesterday.

Actually, no. I was in Europe (Spain) this past weekend. The reaction to Venezuela was overwhelmingly "thank you, Mr. Trump!"

I would not be concerned about Europe. We were in Europe last year when the US bombed Iranian nuclear facilities. No issues, actually when we asked locals their thoughts they didn't GAF.

I despise Trump but when we were in Italy last year, so many young male tour guides told us how they admired JD Vance. I had to educate them on his real history.
