For the past two years the most popular threads are about TT privates mostly.

So -- if you're a New Yorker, what is your background / borough?

Or is it mostly jaded high-earning Manhattanites anxious about social signalling?

Tech worker married to an MD, not uber-wealthy but make just enough to not qualify for financial aid, would have been happy with public if middle school was more academically rigorous and had smarter kids and would still happily abandon private for SHSAT schools in 9th if we get into those.

I read this regional forum. I am a UMC interloper from flyover country who likes to vacation in NYC. I am a former DMV resident. I have alumni ties to universities that NYCers include in their consideration set. And my DS has a friend at an NYC selective public magnet. So loose ties.

I mostly post about NYC things on the college forum and travel forum.

UMC Manhattanite in finance. One in public, one in private HS after many years in public (not easy but full pay and making it work - not a TT). Also ex-UB, though it was a long gap in between - just discovered this in 2025. Spend all my time here and on college board.

Grew up in Arlington, been on UWS for 30+ years. Seriously considered moving back in case kids didn't get into a SHSAT school. I have family in the DC area.

I was a student at a TT back in the day who discovered UrbanBaby from some random Google browsing.

Now I am a parent, still in NYC, with kids in the school system.

Been very fascinating to reflect on the journey to this point as so much of the stuff on UB made no sense to me as a teenager (but was nonetheless fascinating to read).
