Dyson stick vacuum is nearly dead after almost 8 years. Replacement or try another brand?

We need a new vacuum. I hate idea of paying $400 for a new Dyson. Is there another vacuum that works well on wood floors and rugs? I am in need of recommendations. We live in rowhouse so don’t need something crazy

What about it is dying? The battery or suction?

Where’d you buy it and what’s the warranty

The battery on our Dyson stick died last year after close to 10 years. I had the battery replaced, and it only lasted a few months before it died again. Opted for a new Shark from Costco that isn’t cordless, but has a lift-away feature to make it more like a handheld or cordless vac. I love it, and it was less than half the price of a new Dyson stick!

I bought a Shark about 10 years ago and it's still going strong.

We bought a low-cost no-name replacement battery (after maybe 10 years) from Amazon for our Dyson v8 stick several years ago. It is still going strong now. Dyson never had the replacement battery in stock.

I replaced my Dyson battery 2 years ago and it’s working fine. Maybe try that.

Yeah, and get it from Costco.

So I've owned about 4 or 5 Dyson stick vacs over the last ten years across our two houses and I just don't think they're worth the price now that Shark has stepped up their game. I bought the self-emptying Shark Power Detect cordless vacuum on Black Friday last year and immediately sold my one year old Dyson stick on Marketplace. The Shark works just as well and was 1/2 the price when I got it on Black Friday.

I also live in a rowhouse with hardwood and carpet, no pets. After my Dyson died a couple years ago I got Tineco’s cordless vacuum from Amazon and have been really happy with it. It’s on sale for $199.

My Dyson quit after 10 years. I replaced the battery and it’s stronger than ever. Try a battery replacement. We went with an off brand from Amazon for $24.

If close to Fairfax, VA, there is a Dyson service center. Walk in. May be worth having them look at it - if not too far away

I like the Dyson but the shark is also fine if you want to pay less.

I think how long they last is partly chance, within both brands.

$400 for another 8 years seems like a no brainer. What’s the issue?

Same. I think it’s more powerful than it ever was!
