| I understand is a P/F course is also a free course? MY 2 kids will be Sophomore and Junior are interested in taking it over the summer. |
| No it’s something like $130 for the online course over the summer. |
| not free |
| Not free but relatively cheap. |
|
I took it as an FCPS student not to long ago and there was a fee.
Anything outside of what they teach in schools requires a fee. I did this twice with PE and then again with Spanish 3. I also know a classmate who took a Math Class over the summer, and she too had a fee. |
| It was $130 for my student last summer |
And summer online PE was $510 for my other child. I was surprised at the difference in cost. Even considering that Personal Finance is asynchronous. |
| What is the point of paying to do this over the summer? I have never understood this parents who push their kids to do this. |
| What grade do students typically take this Personal Finance class? |
| Usually 11th grade once the HPE requirement is fulfilled. However, students can take it 10-12 grade. |
It frees up time for other electives. If your child is into music and/or theater, they need the extra space. Also, some kids REALLY HATE PE and would rather do it on their own time. |
| My child took the online Econ/Personal Finance offered through Longwood University and it was $50, and he earned college credit. It was more time-consuming than the regular online class, but now he has the DE credits. |
That meets VA state requirement? |
Yes, it does. We got an email about it at the beginning of the year — it meets the requirement AND you get college credit. That’s said, it was much more time-consuming than the regular course. |
| I’m glad my child knocked it out over the summer (Econ/Personal finance). Now this summer we are focusing on SAT Prep and he can take a real elective in place of that requirement. |
