What's going on with Bates College?

Anonymous
This is a general inquiry as Bates seems to be struggling a ton with faculty retention, mediocre endowment/fundraising performance, and a general stagnancy of the institution. What's going on?

Do you have a link, OP? All of the remote schools struggle a bit with faculty retention and money issues are universal. When you say Bates is struggling, what are you comparing it to?

You lost me at medicore. People who post here to hate on schools, especially very good schools, are the worst form of pathetic. Get a life. I know countless kids who would do anything to be full pay at Bates. It is fine. Close the thread.

We took it off the list after learning about how be many Econ professors left a few years back, google and you’ll see.

There is some random Bates hater who starts a new thread every six months or so. So weird. Get a life OP.

Irrespective of economics faculty departures (and there were four in a recent year), the economics department at Bates appears to have remained strong:

NP

Bates College has had several instances of racial discrimination against black individuals. Once such case involved the head football coach at Bates. Goggle it.

How about you “google it” and share a relevant link. Or better yet, expound on it. Telling us to google something is the worst kind of lazy.

The endowment is at 400million- lagging, slow growth, or mediocre.

PP - it's definitely the same troll, bringing up the same old incidents (econ departures, firing the football coach) that barely deserved notice when they occurred and are completely irrelevant today.

It is true that the endowment is low compared to peer schools; presumably the newish president who has some background in finance is positioned to address that.

You’re rushing to complain about two different people. I’m OP, I don’t even know about whatever stupid sports incident happened and don’t really care since it has nothing to do with my question.

OP, you didn't ask a genuine question, you made a vague and unsupported allegation. In other words, troll.

Of the Maine 3, Bates gets my#2 vote. Colby, with its opaque admissions process, appears to be run more like a for profit enterprise.

Visited Bates and it felt very welcoming. Their admissions office was top notch.

I did ask a question based off of real issues to the college. What’s troll behavior is clogging a thread with useless tantrums instead of just getting off of it.
