| Starting to see ID session dates popping up and by invitation only from the big clubs playing in top leagues. It's a good idea to train with a prospective clubs during the winter to see if it's a good fit for both the club and player. Which clubs have you found to be strong in terms of development, exposure, and pathways (academy, college, etc.)? Are there known concerns or issues with certain clubs? Testing the waters is tricky, especially when you want to explore better opportunities without burning bridges if the move isn’t worth the sacrifice. Any lessons learned, do’s and don’ts, or club-specific feedback? |

Every club has its issues.
My first recommendation is too not worry about testing waters just jump in. Don't jump for a badge, look for the total package. There is more to development than just being on a winning team. |
Definitely sign up for ID sessions/contact clubs so you can practice with them. You will want to go to at least 3 or 4 practices to get a good feel for the team and coach. |

It is so kid and team dependent. No one club has it all at every age group. Every club has problems and drama at different age levels. Which team and coach combination is the best for your child's development at this time?
How good is the coach at your child's age level? What is his or her coaching style? Is it geared towards long term development and building confidence? How are the team dynamics? |
| Agree with much of what has been said, and will add, please skip the revenue teams. If your child is not on the 1 or 2nd team, maybe 3rd, just skip it. Go to a smaller club, pay less, allow your child to develop and make friends and try again with the big boys at a future date. Don't waste your money, their time or their future, because they are only taking a 4th, 5th, 6th, and dare I say 7th and 8th team to increase their own paychecks, not to help your child to continue to improve |
| Don't accept or commit unless you're 100% sure. Often I see a player gets offered 1st team and end up on the bench or dropped to the 2nd team when the season starts. This sucks and is very real with mls. Also the coach who offered the position may end not to be the coach and all bets are off. |

We went on trial for two weeks and juggled going to both practices. We did not let anyone know we were trying out.
This is a much better approach than clubs hosting a one day try out with influx number of kids. |
