Machine Swim Parents

Apparently Machine Swim parents for 10&U dont understand how bleachers work.

So many aloof, narcissistic parents blocking the viewing at Takoma pool for the swim meet, and then being mad when asked to move out of the way so everyone can see and enjoy the meet.

Machine Swim needs to help their parents with some basic swim meet etiquette.

Huh, I've never thought of them being particularly bad. Are the bleachers over full?

How should the bleachers work?

This isn’t a Machine issue. There are spectators that obliviously (or not) obstruct others’ views and those that are courteous. Every team, every venue. It’s probably how these people shows up in life as well.

Machine parents were like this at harvest moon this October too. They were supposed to share a gym with York and took over 3/4 of it. Completely entitled and oblivious. And York had at least as many swimmers as they did. They also blocked the entrances to the gym and barely inched away when asked politely.

It’s always the 10 and under parents. Clueless and just have to see every second of their precious future Olympian’s meet. Whether their kid is currently in the pool or not.

Relax Francis, it's a candy cane meet. Most of the spectators are complete novices, not unlike those new parents pushing people out of the way at the mall to get a better angle for that shot of their kid with Santa.

Just reading this post and Christmas champs post , makes more of a case to figure out a way to ensure safety at these meets . If an unexpected accident happens . it will create fewer opportunities for swimmers due to capacity limitations.

Wait, is the complaint that people sat down and didn't move between events? Because that's normal spectating begavior. Were people standing up at the bottom or standing in the aisles?

It’s actually not for those of us who volunteer and have older kids. I’m not sitting in the hot bleachers for 3 hours to watch my teenagers 3 total minutes of swimming.

I'm not saying it's required that you do so-- just that it's normal. I usually time, but when I'm not, I'm not getting up and down and up and down.

Yeah, that's annoying. That happened at a very crowded age group ISCA one spring, and an entire NY team started heckling the offender "get down, green shirt," which prompted a profanity-laced meltdown from the guy blocking the stands. Hilariously surreal.
