Centreville High School Renovation

I can’t be the only one who finds this ridiculous, right?

The histrionics of this renovation/expansion is beyond me.

It's hard to follow. Centreville has an enrollment this fall of 2164 students. All the boundary options presented for Western this fall remove 362 students from Centreville and add no students. That takes CVHS down to 1802 students. Yet the November 2025 presentation continues to discuss an expansion of the school to 3000 seats.

Why persist with the plan for such a large expansion? The only possible justification I can see is pulling all of Willow Springs ES out of Fairfax HS and into Centreville. Has that decision been made and communicated to the City of Fairfax?

Otherwise it just seems like FCPS doing what FCPS does, which is operate in silos where the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing. Will the Board of Supervisors pitch a fit when they hear FCPS is putting out design updates in November 2025 that don't take the Western HS acquisition into account at all?

Exactly.

It’s the same thing they did with West Potomac.

If Westfield is gaining kids post opening of Western, Centreville does not need a massive renovation, unless the take all of Powell, Willow Springs, and heck, even Eagle View!

I just don’t know anymore with the missing logic of the board.

I don't think we've heard the last of this. I've seen a few School Board members say they are assuming the Centreville expansion will be scaled back given the KAA purchase and likely boundary changes.

I wouldn't be surprised if the next draft CIP continues to refer to expanding CVHS to 3000, or if this then triggers some angry comments from some Board members and parents at other schools that would benefit if some of the money originally budgeted for the Centreville renovation/expansion was reallocated.

Exactly.

Centreville does need renovated, but it doesn’t need a whole new tower and land leased from the park authority.

Chantilly Needs its own renovation, that school barely has any windows.

McLean needs major work to fix its issues.

Then there’s Robinson

Mount Vernon

Annandale

The rest of Justice

The rest of West Potomac (Also received an unnecessary addition.

And probably Lewis (which is essentially in hospice).

Well, the rest of Madison too.

Many of these renovations are just cosmetic and mechanical, with some of these possibly needing conservative additions, besides Chantilly (to a degree) and McLean which has been waiting for years.

It needs the renovation but not an expansion.

Without the modular, its capacity is only 1968 seats. An expansion to 2500 would make sense to accommodate future growth, but 3000 is over-the-top and unnecessary.

2500 is more appropriate than 3000.

3000 is just obscene.

The need to blow Centreville High School out is ridiculous and an abusive waste of taxpayer money.

Two things cannot be true.

1. A new high school opening

2. Blowing out an extant high school with no need for excessive expansion.

Someone needs to get that memo to Facilities and the architects who came up with the plan to expand CVHS to 3000 seats before FCPS bought KAA. There was no excuse for recycling that plan at a public meeting last month.

Robinson is in good shape.

Why would Robinson need a renovation beyond regular maintenance?

Right.

The 3000 seat plan was initially posited in 2022 when at the time it might have been necessary.

Now, 2500 seats is more reasonable unless they justify the 3000 in some maverick way, which they most likely will considering Dunn Loring ES is coming into existence.

It’s showing its age.

Trust me.

It just needs something modest and dainty.

To expand to 3000 students in general is absurd, especially when there is a new high school opening.

It tells you that Reid and the Facilities folks have absolutely no idea what they are doing when they present a “design update” in mid-November that continues to refer to expanding Centreville to 3000.

I can’t wait until the next CIP comes out that continues to refer to building an unnecessary Dunn Loring, even as the enrollment at Shrevewood continues to decline.

It’s like they are just begging to have their incompetence called out.
