UVA Deferrals

What do they really look for between ED and Deferral / RD decisions for those that have been deferred the past?
Is it only gpa increase?

Does your post mean UVA back to deferring those not accepted at ED? I thought at one point they moved to either accept or reject at ED and no deferrals. When did they go back to doing deferrals?

Not sure when they got back to it, but we got a deferral.

They only did this for the class of 2024. They went back to including deferrals for the class of 2025.

FWIW I don't know anyone who was accepted after a deferral last for the class of 2025. That can obviously change year to year, but did want to share.

We decided in advance that if we received a deferral we were moving on.

I don't either. Knew around 10 who were deferred and none got in. It think the deferrals are sort of a "courtesy deferral."

ED to RD only. Nothing new to review for EA round.

Poeple on other threads have said they know of kids who got deferred and then got in, but who knows. With no supplemental essays this year, I'm guessing EA and RD apps will be way up and it will be harder than ever to get in RD. Good luck to those deferred but definitely have Plans B and C.

For our kid, it was deferral and then wait list. I think that is not uncommon. She had strong first semester grades.
