| I like to make sandwich bread at home, but we go through it so fast and it is time intensive. Does anyone double their recipe to make two 9x5 loaves? Does it work? If so, please share your recipe. The one I use most often recommends against doubling, so I've never tried it. |

I use this one a lot and it makes 2 loaves. Julia Child’s white bread
https://www.dinnerwithjulie.com/2012/03/04/julia-childs-white-sandwich-bread/ But I have never had issues doubling bread recipes if original calls for one loaf. I’ve found you are using less than 7 cups of flour you should be ok. |

Can you use 2 bowls and make 2 batches?
That might be easier than mixing 1 larger batch of dough. |
Thanks - maybe I'll just try doubling my normal recipe first. It's pretty similar to the one you posted. |
I wouldn't. My mom baked bread when I was quite young and she was having too many babies to work. She made buns, not loaves, but I remember the roasting pan she raised her dough in and it was definitely enough for 4 standard loaves. I don't see any problem doubling the recipe for a single loaf, and you could probably double a 2-loaf recipe assuming you have a big enough bowl (or roaster!) for the rise. I use Kitchenaide for kneading and have not tried it with a 4 loaf recipe but I think the bowl would handle it. |

I don't recommend doubling recipes for baking. It gets tricky when you are making anything that needs to rise.
Better to just make the one recipe twice. |
Agreed. This is what I do. The yeast is the challenging this when doubling, to me. |

There are lots and lots of recipes for white bread that make multiple loaves. Why not try a new recipe? I use the artisanal bread in 5
Minutes a day recipe and that makes multiple loaves. I leave the bowl in the fridge and pull out a hunk to bake when I want it. |
| As long as you have a strong mixer, it will be fine. You may be able to reduce quantity of yeast and any flavorings/spices (esp cinnamon and other strong flavors). |
| I have doubled bread recipes without any issues. I won’t mess with cakes and pies though. |
| If you easier the ingredients using a scale rather than using measuring cups, you will be more likely to have success. |
