Best radiology office for breast imaging?

Anonymous
I’ve been to Washington Radiology, MedStar, Georgetown and GW and would rate them in that order form a bedside manner point of view. The Georgetown radiologist seemed very good but then again, what do I know. The GW one was rude and dismissive…

Where should I go for my next mammogram and then six months later, MRI? I have extremely dense breasts and am on MHT/HRT.

Thanks!

Bay Radiology, Annapolis. They don't do MRI but they do CEM (if I were set on MRI vs CEM, I'd go somewhere else for MRI but get the rest done here--they do everything through biopsy, if needed, on the same day).

And the radiologist is extraordinary. Really knows her stuff and excellent human skills.

Thanks PP, I’m in DC so Annapolis is far. And I do need the MRI.

Why not stick with Washington Radiology if you've ranked them first based on your experience?

I also am on the mammogram, MRI every 6 month program and have exclusively used Washington Radiology with no issues.

Thanks. Just looking to triangulate my experience with those of others, and I thought there was a good chance someone with more experience and knowledge than me might chime in.

I think Washington Radiology is an administrative disaster, and they had a scan that they referred to Georgetown to sub-specialist care that the Georgetown person thought showed incompetence (and cost about 10K of testing to my insurance company for something that was a non-issue). They're last on my list of places to go always, even though they're the most convenient in terms of location.

I was a WRA patient for years until my recent cancer diagnosis. I think it’s one of those things that are convenient and work until they don’t. The radiologist who did my diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound was pretty dismissive when I mentioned I was anxious. The one who did my biopsy (different doc) wasn’t exactly empathetic either when she called with the bad news. But never mind the bedside manner, they made me wait over a weekend with the results even though they had them because they have a rule that only the doctor who did the biopsy can give you the result. And then, they made me come in in person to pick up a copy of the pathology report.

I’ve since had an MRI at Georgetown and such a world of difference. The images were uploaded a few days after the scan and I could see the report as soon as it was ready.

Avoid Washington Radiology, K Street location. That radiologist is a joke. Missed an obvious diagnosis and has terrible, unprofessional bedside manner.

Also recommend Bay Radiology in Annapolis. It’s an hour drive for me but it’s worth it

I go to Johns Hopkins Radiology in Bethesda. I switched to there from WRA after a breast cancer diagnosis. I like that I can see everything in my portal. And my treatment team was with JH. The radiologists I have worked with there have been skilled and empathetic through diagnostics and biopsies.

Fairfax Radiology. No complaints.

Same. No need to drive back multiple times!

Do they take insurance?

Yes. Virtually everything except Medicaid.
