We moved to VA last year, cool state for many things but extremely weird for others.
Learned the surrounding states have soccer in the Fall. What’s VHSL rationale to be a weirdo? Can this be reversed or the old dinosaurs at VHSL will veto it all the time? Gathering signatures in my community as we speak. |

Why is this an issue?
VA gets group with NC teams in ECNL, etc rather than MD teams due to HS soccer seasons being Spring v. Fall, but is it really that big of a deal? |
What community? Cannot imagine soccer having to fight for HS field space in the fall. |

HS football is in the fall. Soccer teams practice and play their games on the same field as the football team. Since it's been like this for a long time Virginia has built their high school athletic facilities to accommodate. That's why it's not going to change.
While it might make it a little more convenient for you and a few others to have the same club soccer season as a neighboring state, it will also cause a lot of problems for many more people. Typical entitled parent wants to upend everything because it would be better for them and doesn't think or care about how it might affect everyone else. |
| I prefer HS soccer in the Spring and club playing almost all their games in Fall and Winter as is in VA. With club they start in August and are able to improve continuously and then break for HS where the level and coaching is not so great. I would not like having my player go into showcases with only HS soccer under their belt where bad habits could have been picked up. Have MD switch to spring soccer if they want to align with VA. |
| Hahahahahaha OP. You’re new. Soccer has been Spring in Va since the dinosaurs. A parental signature won’t even begin to love the needle. Should’ve moved to Md. |
It has worked well for the most part for my DD's club team playing in the Fall in VA and the HS in the Spring. She decided not to play HS, but stick with her club team's combined team for Spring training and also has been able to train with the local USLW team as well. Only downside was going into ENCL playoffs, her team had been training together very much leading into playoffs, but it worked out ok overall. |
Yet, somehow schools in other states manage to play soccer (boys and girls) and football on the fall without problems. The HS league my DS's school is in plays all soccer games on Tuesday-Thursday-Saturday and football on Friday (except for the few oddball schools that don't have lights). At our particular school, the boys and girls soccer teams rotate early and late practices and home games are scheduled to start after football practice ends. |
| Also get South Carolina on the same page for Fall boys soccer |
| Vhsl ruined most high school sports. Did you see the new rules regarding having to go to middle school in order to play a sport in high school. Feeder middle school. |
\ What's wrong with that? |
Where do the teams practice on the nights they don't have games if other teams have games on the same field? Your ideas are stupid. Fall fields are completely booked at our large public every night (and we have two! many schools only have one). You are forgetting about space for freshman and JV football games. And field hockey. Where exactly would 3 football teams, 2 field hockey teams, and 4 soccer teams all practice and play games on two fields? |
When do the JV and freshman football teams practice and play games? What about the field hockey teams? |
| Its so funny when people make completely unrealistic suggestions. Please explain a game and practice schedule for 3 football teams, 4 soccer teams and 2 field hockey teams on one football field. Heck, I will even give you two fields to work with (though many schools only have one turf field). |
Explain how high schools in Maryland and many other states manage to do it. Of course it could be done. But why? What problem does it solve and for whom? |
