I will paste it in for you this time, but in the future you should just look up the items you are interested in yourself-- they get posted here: https://go.boarddocs.com/mabe/mcpsmd/Board.nsf/Public (save the link, it's the same every time, you just click on the meeting you want under "Meetings" and then select "Agenda" and you can find the documents there as they post them.)

For this item it's here. Looks like an old building they gave to the county that the county doesn't need anymore and MCPS is reclaiming, potentially for an early childhood center or office space: https://go.boarddocs.com/mabe/mcpsmd/Board.nsf/files/DP2JZY4FAC91/$file/Former%20Kensington%20ES%20Deed%20Acceptance.pdf

They didn't mention that and it seems unlikely since enrollment is dropping so they are more likely to close existing elementary schools rather than build new ones, but I suppose it's not impossible?

Is enrollment dropping for Kensington area (there are a few privates around there) or generally in mcps?

Yes, enrollment is dropping in MCPS. People are having less kids. In the 20895 district it’s getting to be more DINKS and retirees

There are a bunch of new retirement facilities but plenty of new families still moving in as the housing costs are lower for some homes. I think that’s the hoc builing the county uses. .

It's very close to KP, which is underenrolled.

Even if it weren't, they'd just redraw boundaries with the schools nearby during the elementary boundary study next year. This is not a bursting at the seams situation where they need to be building new elementary schools. Honestly they probably shouldn't even be rebuilding Sligo Creek ES-- the other elementary schools in the area could absorb those kids with a few boundary adjustments-- but they are just doing it to throw a bone to families who are pissed about SSIMS closing.

It sounds like the opportunity to reclaim the property fell into their lap and they just want to use it as office space, and maybe an early childhood center at some point down the road.

This is the building HOC has used for years. Its in pretty bad shape. Its a former MCPS school but its been many years since open. HOC is moving due to the condition so its will now be available for something else.

That's wrong to bring in someone else w/o renovating or rebuilding.

They could rent it out and have them renovate. It was originally Mcps.

Rent it out and let the tenant renovate it?

I live here and can confirm that no, not true. Most houses are getting torn down and sold to families with babies or young couples with money who will likely have kids.
