Crazy idea- If the internet could be shut down for the world for an entire week, do you think we would see any changes?

We already have proof of rage bait, algorithms, corrupt news stations and more. Obviously, this cannot be done, but if nobody had access to the internet for a full week do you think anything would get better in that short time?

Society would collapse. You wouldn't be able to buy anything. Credit transactions run over the Internet. Any other bright ideas?

No. People would just be itching like a bunch of addicts waiting to get back on.

This. I have one psycho person in my life that would lose it. Their own words.

I wouldn't be able to do my job, which would suck for my clients.

Phones wouldn't work since the Internet is the backhaul for cellphones. Your home phone is VoIP as well unless you live in a rural area.

So, neat!

Yes, there have been studies of the mental health/relationship benefits.

But too many businesses /societal functions are internet-dependent.

I wish we could go back to 1990’s pre internet.

I experienced this during the 2003 East Coast grid blackout and it was amazing. Almost 48 hours of actual human living!

OP is thinking of SM and forgetting about the entire industry of the world being online.

I’d welcome it, just to catch up on other things and enjoy the peace. But it would be chaos for medical systems and put people in danger.

No , thank you. Floppy disks, no email, word processors! No. Big tube TVs, expensive long-distance phone calls, VHS tapes. No. Please no.

This is exactly what I thought of, too. Was in NYC for that blackout and there was a palpable sense of disappointment when the power came back on. Life without the constant buzz of electricity and connectivity is kind of nice, at least for a little while.
