Long story but I want to add an easy tofu recipe to today’s meal. Any suggestions? I have one block of firm tofu.
Thanks! |
| Do you have any tasty pre bottled sauces? My family really only eats tofu if I air fry it and then toss it in a peanut sauce or something similar—thick and sweet and salty. |
| +1 to the PP. airfry and then sauce it with whatever you’ve got |
This. I tend to drain it, cut it up and roast it, and toss in sweet chili sauce or teriyaki sauce. Not sure if those flavor profiles fit in with Thanksgiving, but it's always good. |
| My relatives would rather go hungry than eat tofu. |
^ and we're East Asian!

This
https://savoryspin.com/spicy-baked-tofu/ looks promising for a recipe for that just uses pantry ingredients and has a flavor profile to go with Tgiving sides. I haven't made it. The pumpkin maple chili sauce linked sounds good if you happen to have those ingredients. If you have more ingredients, we have made this: https://itdoesnttastelikechicken.com/brown-sugar-mustard-glazed-tofu/ and it's been a hit with our former ham lovers turned vegetarian. |
| For us (far East Asian), tofu is an ingredient to other dishes. Sounds odd to have it as a main dish. |
It seems likely this family is planning an American Thanksgiving meal today, not a Far Eastern meal. So, following Far Eastern patterns would be very odd. |
My only point was it sounded "odd" to me (no judgement intended). I don't really care what OP does with her tofu. Enjoy anyway makes you happy. |
OP never said it was the main dish. It sounds like it will be an additional side, probably for a vegan guest. |
I'm the East Asian poster who posted earlier. True, but I've seen my American friends eat large blocks of tofu with all kinds of sauces. And in Japan, we do sometimes serve a tiny serving of soft tofu with grated horseradish and/or chopped scallions, as part of a traditional meal with lots of other small dishes. |
| Air Fry or bake it with salt, garlic and onion powder. |
If you posted asking for suggestions on traditional Far East Asian meals associated with holidays, and I posted that your menu was odd, would that feel OK? Why is the opposite OK? |

Slice it thin, so that more of the flavoring covers it.
Just add spices and a coating along these lines and saute, air fry, or bake it: https://www.hodofoods.com/recipes/easy-italian-herbed-tofu I would add 1 TBS soy sauce too. I add that to tofu almost every time because it's SO bland. It doesn't make the dish "Asian." This recipe says Italian but it's actually pretty Thanksgiving coded. |
